Digital weighing scale
Selling by guessed weight loses money on every single bird.
Automatic drinker set
Consistent water = consistent growth = fewer days of feed.
Brooder heat lamp / thermostat
Most early mortality is chilling in week 1 โ cheap to prevent.
Where broiler batches lose money
- Mortality above 5% โ every dead bird ate feed without ever paying it back. Week-1 brooding discipline matters most.
- Selling late โ after ~35 days, FCR climbs fast; extra days often cost money despite heavier birds.
- Buying feed retail per bag โ negotiate a dealer rate; feed is two-thirds of your cost.
- No market plan โ locking a buyer before the batch beats haggling from a weak position at day 35 with hungry birds.
How the math works
Revenue = birds sold ร average weight ร price per kg. Costs = chicks + feed + other. Break-even price = total cost รท total kg sold โ if the market falls below this, you lose money on every kg.
Run the calculator twice: once with your expected numbers, once with a pessimistic case (mortality +5%, sale price โ10 Tk). If the pessimistic case still doesn't ruin you, the batch is safe to start.
